Addams Family Gallery

I do not own the Addams Family franchise or its intellectual property. This is a personal blog presentation of original artwork and illustration concepts; I’m practicing so I can get better. This classic, creepy family works nicely with my art style, and my sometimes off-the-wall, dark, and dry humor. They’re a horrifying— I mean wholesome, creepy and kooky family who doesn’t quite fit in and doesn’t follow the rules (something like me 😂). Check out my Addams family artwork below. Thanks for viewing!

Original character designs for 2 boy best friends. I am still thinking through the female characters. My goal is to have the girls look unique and diverse, but also complement the Addams Family and the boys.

My official adaptation of the gothic/victorian style Addams House. My lines are funky but I dig it, and it works for this style I think.

Lined art of first intro page. Y’all are gonna see these backgrounds! LOL Practicing drawing scenery and character poses. Main thing to remember is not to add too many details since it will be covered with bubble text.

First intro page complete with bubble text. Y’all, I’m literally writing this as I go 😭 Trickiest part of writing is the balance of show and tell. I don’t want the characters to speak too much, so I gotta think through their actions and what I want to capture in 8 panels or less on a page. Also, attempting to be funny is hard LOL. Not a comedian but thinking up jokes and one-liners that will hit has been one of my favorite parts of the writing. I wanna incorporate iconic horror movie title references throughout, I think that would add to the ‘creepy but culturally-relevant’ factor and keep the story upbeat and unexpected.

Completed first intro page exercise. Main challenge was introducing and establishing the boys characters personalities in few panels or less. I really hope their personalities shine through. Theo should be highly intelligent (book and tech smart), friendly, yet skeptical and wary of everything. Pete is unafraid, outgoing, and spontaneous, basically the opposite of Theo LOL. Here in this strip, they are coming up to 0001 Cemetery Lane - the address of the Addams Family. Pete decides to check out the house and see if they’ll contribute to their baseball teams’ fundraiser. I think the color story turned out pretty cool too, I like the fall colors juxtaposed with the grey stormy atmosphere. I haven’t decided if it rains yet or not.
Second page in progress. I like all the fun gothic accents throughout that makes the Addams Family fun to draw like the candles and fixtures. I’m stoked I got to play with more exaggerated expressions and poses for the boys and practicing perspective this go-round. I’m getting to know the characters and their story better as I go! New thing I learned is that I despise ‘filler’ panels LOL. I can tell when I drew a mid panel and it aggravates me, I will re-draw it 1,000 times. (This is a good thing!) The panels turn out so much better when you treat each one as it’s own individual composition with intention and detail–almost like these panels could be ‘framable’ by themselves vs. ‘filler’ frames just to get to the next part of the story. Now we finally meet one of the first original Addams Family characters, Lurch. It’s a clumsy introduction LOL.
